Printing 3D Parts, Inc. uses two 3D printing technologies. Fused Deposition Modeler (FDM) technology produces a concept model part and Multi Jet Printer (MJP) technology yields production quality parts.


FUSED DEPOSITION MODELING (FDM)

The Fused Deposition Modeler (FDM) works using an ABS-like plastic filament that's extruded through a heated nozzle and deposited in layers to create the concept model part.

The material hardens immediately and can be painted, dyed, and machined. Fused Deposition Modeler (FDM) parts can be printed in a variety of colors and can have up to three different colors in one part.

The Fused Deposition Modeler (FDM) part has a slightly rougher surface and is a fraction of the cost of the Multi Jet Printer (MJP).

Maximum Fused Deposition Modeler (FDM) part size is 275 mm length x 265 mm width x 230 mm height (10.75 in. x 10.5 in. x 9 in.).


MULTI JET PRINTer (MJP)

The Multi Jet Printer (MJP) works by laying down fine layers (32 microns) of photopolymer material. Ultraviolet (UV) light cures the material into a rigid, durable ABS-like plastic. Support material is easily separated from the part by a melting and washing process. No additional finishing treatments are needed.

The parts have an extremely smooth surface and resemble injected molded surfaces. They cost more than the Fused Deposition Modeler (FDM) parts, but are production quality. The parts can be painted, dyed, chrome plated and machined.

For the first phase of product development, we recommend using the more affordable Fused Deposition Modeler (FDM). This allows for the opportunity to review and approve the concept/design before Multi Jet Printer (MJP) technology is implemented to produce the finished production quality part. Using this iterative process will result in a discounted price on the Fused Deposition Modeler (FDM) 3D printed part.
